Chiropractic Care and Older People
Key elements in the maintenance of health in old age are mobility and strength
The two depend upon each other: mobility is necessary for strength-building forms of exercise and a certain amount of strength is required to enable mobility for a sustained period.
Leg strength is an important factor in fall prevention in the elderly.* The role of chiropractic in maintaining leg strength is twofold:
1. It can decrease pain and increase range of movement - both of which make exercise a lot easier and more pleasant.
2. Studies suggest that chiropractic can reduce symptoms such as dizziness. ** As dizziness decreases and balance improves, exercise becomes easier and can be
performed with more confidence.
Chiropractors can advise you about a healthy lifestyle
Chiropractors have a balanced approach to health, looking at all of the aspects that affect it. We can advise you on nutrition, diet and medication. Referrals to other health professionals can be organised as well. If you look after your general health, many chronic conditions can improve or even be prevented. It is surprising how quickly and how favourably the body responds to even the slightest positive changes. There is always room for improvement at any age and the greatest reward is how you feel after making those changes.
